About "Rescues" Rescuers are wonderful people who are dedicated to helping animals one by one. Some specialize in a certain type of animal, like cats or birds, or in a certain breed of dog. They often save companion animals from situations of abuse, neglect or abandonment, with great expense of time and effort. They can help you find or place a particular pet. Most rescue people are dedicated and responsible. They have their animals vetted, they screen potential adopters, and they usually require that you sign an adoption agreement. They may charge a fee to offset their expenses. By definition, rescue groups do not usually
have a shelter. Instead they foster their animals in their homes until they can
place them in good, permanent homes. For information about Ohio Humane
